Abstract

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks a transformative milestone in India's educational framework, envisioned to meet the needs of the 21st century while aligning with the larger vision of "Vikshit Bharat" or Developed India. Rooted in the principles of equity, accessibility, and inclusivity, the policy aims to revamp the education system by fostering holistic development, critical thinking, and multidisciplinary learning.

The NEP 2020 emphasizes foundational literacy and numeracy, early childhood care and education, and universal access across all levels of schooling. It envisions the integration of technology into education, teacher training reforms, and the establishment of a flexible, competency-based curriculum to bridge the gap between academics and employability. By promoting regional languages, Indian knowledge systems, and global standards, it balances cultural identity with global competitiveness.

Key objectives of the policy include enhancing equity in education, reducing dropout rates, improving Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER), and fostering skill development to harness India's demographic dividend. NEP 2020 seeks to make education more inclusive, particularly for marginalized communities, while creating pathways for lifelong learning.

The analysis highlights the policy's potential to address socio-economic disparities, drive innovation, and contribute to sustainable development goals (SDGs). However, its implementation poses challenges, including infrastructure, funding, and mindset shifts. Overall, NEP 2020 is a significant step toward empowering India's journey to "Vikshit Bharat" by creating a knowledge-driven, equitable, and skilled society.
